Uncle Acid slam “pop diva” Damon Albarn, claim he threw a “hissy fit” to “shut down” their set at Roskilde
Uncle Acid have claimed Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn got their set cut at Roskilde Festival in Denmark.
The Danish festival is currently underway, and was headlined by Gorillaz on July 2nd, which saw them clash with Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, who were performing on the Lagune Stage.
Taking to Instagram after the set, Uncle Acid apologised to their fans who had been in attendance for their set ending early, placing the blame squarely at Albarn.
Their message began. “Apologies to everyone who came to Roskilde Festival hoping to see us play a full set last night. Pop diva Damon Albarn of the novelty cartoon act Gorillaz threw a hissy fit while we played, threatened to storm off stage before finally getting our set shut down because we were ‘too loud’.”
“They were the only headliner of the whole weekend who couldn’t cope with playing at the same time as other artists,” the British psych-rock band added.
Uncle Acid then claimed, “Unfortunately we only managed 25 minutes of assaulting his precious ears from our stage half a mile away before his goons came over and pulled the plug.”
They also said they were performing below the festival’s decibel limit and claim to have offered to turn down their front of house sound to continue the show, but allege “they wanted us off”.
Uncle Acid went on to thank “the Roskilde crew and stage manager who tried their best to intervene but it was ultimately out of their hands. Orders from above.”
Their message concluded, “PS to our Danish fans… we love you and we’ll see you next year in Copenhagen.”
According to the Danish publication Politiken, Albarn did raise concerns during Gorillaz’s set, reportedly telling the crowd, “Is that the point, you should be able to hear the other stages?”
Roskilde have since explained the situation, telling Soundvenue that it is “an incredibly unfortunate situation for everyone affected”, claiming that the set was pulled due to “an interaction between wind conditions and technical conditions, which affected the sound performance in an inappropriate way”.
The festival added, “When hosting a large live event outdoors, changes in weather and wind can create challenges.”
Neither Albarn or Gorillaz have responded to Uncle Acid’s comments.
