How a UFO gifted Dave Davies the power to communicate with stars: “Psychic impressions from aliens”

For decades, many people have said that rock music is the work of the devil. The religious have spent time cowering in corners as electric guitars and the sound of bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Metallica have acted as proof that the devil is real, and he communicates to us through music. The satanic panic was a very real thing for a lot of people, as they thought that hidden messages and devil worship were buried in the heart of rock ‘n’ roll.

Of course, while many people thought that the devil’s influence could be felt all over rock music, some bands were keen on proving that they were mistaken. Jeff Lynee and ELO tried to prove to people that the satanic panic was a load of nonsense by making an intentionally creepy song that had to be played backwards to be understood. The song didn’t actually mean anything, but it acted as proof that people could find hidden messages in nearly anything, so long as they looked hard enough.

So, if people can make mistakes, it could be the case that they are right that an otherworldly force is contributing to great music, but they are just thinking of the wrong otherworldly source. Maybe the minds of musicians are moulded not by demons that live below us but by aliens that live above us.

Throughout musical history, there have been stories of artists thinking that a presence from another world has somehow influenced their work. Many people think aliens might be somewhat interested in music; given that it’s a universal language, it would be the most effective way for them to communicate with people on Earth.

Sun Ra, the jazz musician, famously believed that he had been sent to Earth by ancient beings who wanted him to try to establish peace on the planet. His trumpet player, Ahmed Abdullah, said that while he recognised how strange this ideology was, it still made sense to him on some level.

“It makes sense to me that if the Creator sent anyone here, it would be a person who had mastered music, the planet’s universal language,” said Abdullah, “Sound is the beginning of all creation, the Nomma, the Om, and the Nam that direct our lives, the basis for what Sun Ra called a Sound Government.”

Jimi Hendrix also claimed to have been visited by aliens from another planet. When he was younger, Hendrix was convinced that he had seen a UFO outside of his house. He didn’t talk about the actual incident much, but many of his songs had a sci-fi theme attached, and this was him making reference to his interest in the cosmos.

The Kinks’ Dave Davies was also convinced he had had an otherworldly encounter. “I’ve had several experiences seeing UFOs. It was really interesting,” he said, “I saw them in north Devon in England — lights and zigzags in the skies. Then when I started to dig deeper into my experience, I understood I was also getting communications — psychic impressions — from aliens.”

He continued, “I’m sure there are many people in the world who can explain it better than I can. You have an experience with a UFO, and you keep those feelings, and then it gets into your subconscious and super-conscious. When I investigated what those feelings could be, when I got really into ufology, I could’ve sworn I was having connections with the Dog Star, with Sirius. Sirius has very deep connections with Earth.”
