U2 members, Bono and the Edge, have released a stripped-back cover of iconic Led Zeppelin song ‘Stairway to Heaven’.
The musicians, who have performed the track four times during their most recent tour, released the homemade rendition of the Led Zep song in tribute to their road crew.
The original song, released by Zep in 1971, was created by the band’s guitarist Jimmy Page and lead singer Robert Plant as part of their famed untitled fourth studio album.
“There’s one annoying aspect of an Irish crew that has to be said,” comments Bono in the YouTube video.
“Wherever you go in the world, whatever venue you’re playing — whether it’s the Olympia or 3 Arena or Madison Square Garden — you walk into the venue and it’s a big moment, and you’ll hear a song that we said, ‘We’ll never, ever play this.’ And that’s right, ‘Stairway To Heaven.’ These professionals believe they play this better than the band. And you know, it might be true.”
