Tyler, the Creator confirms the release date of new album ‘Don’t Tap the Glass’

After teasing fans on social media for a week, Tyler, the Creator has confirmed he will release a new album, Don’t Tap the Glass, on Monday, July 21st.

The ‘Balloon’ rapper has ramped up much speculation over the last week, as cryptic posts teased a release on Monday. Now, his websites have been updated to advertise the new album, confirming the imminent release.

On July 18th, the rapper played a show in Brooklyn. During the set, he shouted out the album name, confirming the rumours. Outside the show, an installation depicted the album cover with the title across the front. This concluded four nights at Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre for his ‘Chromakopia’ tour.

Tyler follows in his own footsteps, as his last and eighth album, Chromakopia, also did not have a long rollout. He also dropped that album on a Monday, a stylistic move that forced the listener to ingrain his music into their normal routine from the beginning of the week.

Fans can see for themselves on the Don’t Tap the Glass website, which allows viewers to click an image of Tyler’s head several times with a hammer. If they do this first, before clicking “enter”, they are not permitted access to the site.

Vinyl records, CDs, box sets, and album merchandise are available via the website. Everything will ship on Monday, July 21st. The album cover depicts Tyler topless, wearing a huge gold chain. His facial features have been enlarged; on his head sits a red “Glass” cap.

Below these links, Tyler has added three text boxes. They read, “1. Body Movement. No Sitting Still. 2. Only Speak in Glory. Leave Your Baggage at Home. 3. Don’t Tap the Glass.”

Tyler still has plenty more shows to perform on his Chromakopia tour. He will soon head over to Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. The tour will conclude in the Philippines with two performances at Araneta Coliseum on September 20th and 21st. He will also headline Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.
