Twin Peaks' actress Peggy Lipton has sadly passed away at 72

We’ve awoken to the sad news that Peggy Lipton, famed actress for her roles in Twin Peaks and The Mod Squad has sadly died at the age of 72. Last night the actress lost her battle with colon cancer.

Rashida Jones, Lipton’s daughter with Qunicy Jones, confirmed that her mother had died peacefully on Saturday night. Jones telling the Los Angeles Times along side her sister Kidada: “She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side. We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her.”

Lipton’s career began with modelling before she quickly diverted towards acting, going on to land a starring role in counterculture police series The Mod Squad within two years. Lipton became a fan favourite as ‘flower child’ Julie Barnes, receiving four Emmy nominations as well as winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama. Lipton went on to record some incredible covers by Donovan and Laura Nyro.

David & David: The crossing paths of Bowie and Lynch in Twin Peaks film 1992

Lipton married Quincy Jones in 1974 and had two children with the record mogul. Rashida and Kidada both followed their mother’s footsteps into acting and find success across a range of roles.

With the exception of a role in The Mod Squad movie in 1979 Lipton largely retired from acting until a certain David Lynch made contact about a very special role. The call came shortly after her divorce from Jones and was offering her the role of Norma Jennings, the owner of the Double R Diner in the legendary Twin Peaks. The role would be reprised for the 1992 feature film as well as the 2017 Showtime reboot.

Lipton’s career has been long and varied but her crowning triumph will remain her beautiful family.

R.I.P. Peggy.
