‘Twin Peaks’ actor Owain Rhys Davies dead at 44
Owain Rhys Davies, an actor who starred in shows such as Twin Peaks and The OA, has died aged 44.
The Welsh actor was best-known for starring as Agent Wilson in the 2017 revival drama Twin Peaks: The Return, helmed by David Lynch and Mark Frost almost three decades after the original.
However, the sad news of his sudden passing was announced on June 2nd, in a family statement from his brother Rhodri that said: “It is with profound sadness that my father and I share the news that my brother, Owain, has passed away. This news will come as a great shock to many. The reach of Owain’s love, friendship, and generosity was vast.”
The family added that the circumstances of Davies’ death still raised “questions”, but that their “understanding is that Owain passed suddenly, naturally, and peacefully”.
The statement continued: “The outpouring of messages we have received over the past few days has been deeply moving and a testament to the impact he had on so many lives.”
Reflecting on the actor’s career, it added: “Owain was fortunate enough to have more than one family”, noting, “Alongside his biological one, he built extraordinary, family-like bonds with many of his closest friends, colleagues, and loved ones.”
It also noted that the family were “taking comfort in knowing how loved he was”.
Alongside his role in Twin Peaks: The Return, Davies also starred in TV series such as The OA, as well as the Disney film Alice Through the Looking Glass and the 2019 horror satire A Serial Killer’s Guide to Life.
Among the tributes that flooded in for the actor, the Welsh National Theatre paid tribute on social media by saying: “The Welsh performing arts community is poorer for his loss, and we can only imagine the many more stories he would have gone on to tell.”
