Tribeca 2025: Music documentaries dominate line-up for film festival

The 2025 Tribeca Film Festival has revealed its line-up of films, with music documentaries represented in force. The festival will take place in New York City from June 4th to June 15th, with a collection of notable actors and musicians set to appear across the days.

The previously announced world premier of Billy Joel: And So It Goes will open the festival on June 4th, directed by Emmy winners Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin. 

The documentary lineup features chart-topping performers like Counting Crows and Culture Club. Meanwhile, Billy Idol, Becky G, and Eddie Vedder will deliver exclusive performances following the world premiere of their films. Members of Metallica, Depeche Mode, Wizkid, and Ty Dolla $ign will also offer post-premiere conversations.

Another world premiere is Miley Cyrus’ visual album Something Beautiful, directed by Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter. It is produced by Panos Cosmatos. Following the showing, Cyrus will be in attendance for an exclusive conversation.

Beyond music documentaries, the festival will feature a star-studded feature film line-up, including Emmy nominee Rose Byrne, Demi Lovato, and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer, who will star in Tow: The Best You Can. Alongside them, Emmy nominee Kevin Bacon and Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick will make their first co-starring appearance in 20 years.

The festival will also bring audiences the live-action film How to Train Your Dragon, starring Mason Thames, Nico Parker, and Gerard Butler. Other highlights include Deep Cover, starring Orlando Bloom and Bryce Dallas Howard, and A Tree Fell in the Woods, with Emmy nominees Alexandra Daddario, Daveed Diggs, and Josh Gad.

Tribeca is set to close with a “galvanizing message of change” with the movie Yanuni, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. Yanuni follows a fearless Indigenous chief who leads a relentless fight to defend her people’s land.
