Billy Joel documentary ‘And So It Goes’ to open Tribeca Festival

The new two-part HBO documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, has been announced as the opening night screening of the 2025 Tribeca Festival.

The film festival’s CEO, Jane Rosenthal, announced the event’s programming while on stage at the NAB Show’s Business Show of Entertainment event, stating that it was an “honour” to celebrate the singer’s life and career.

In her announcement, she said: “For nearly 25 years, the Tribeca Festival has celebrated the artists who give New York its heart and soul,” while referring to him as “an artist who has embodied that very spirit.”

She continued: “Paying tribute to the legendary performer who captured the essence of a ‘New York State of Mind’ is a perfect way to kick off this year’s celebration of creativity and inspiration.”

The festival will take place in New York City from June 4th to June 15th.. Its lineup includes films, music, television, games, and many other multimedia and immersive activities for guests to enjoy.

The documentary’s co-directors and producers, Jessica Levin and Susan Lacy, have also stated that they are thrilled to have their work showcased at the festival.

Lacy said, “Our thanks go out to Jane Rosenthal and the festival team and to HBO and the wonderful folks there who have supported us throughout in our efforts to bring an in-depth, honest, and musically expressive portrait of this complex talent.”

Billy Joel: And So It Goes will make its television debut on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max later in the summer after its premiere at the film festival. The full lineup for the Tribeca Festival is yet to be publicly announced.
