Trent Reznor gives breakdown of Nine Inch Noize’s debut album and rules out tour: “The result was so much fun for us”

With two days to go until it arrives, Trent Reznor has provided the full lowdown on Nine Inch Noize’s debut album.

Last week, Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize took to Instagram to confirm their record would arrive on April 17th, then stormed Coachella on April 11th with one of the most memorable sets of the weekend.

Now, Reznor has confirmed their 12-song debut album will be the exact same as their set at Coachella last weekend, which saw them rip through new electronic-edged versions of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Vessel’, ‘She’s Gone Away’, ‘Heresy’, ‘Copy of A’, ‘Closer’, ‘Came Back Haunted’, and ‘As Alive as You Need Me to Be’.

Additionally, they performed ‘Parasite’ by the long-rested side-project, How to Destroy Angels, and a cover of ‘Memorabilia’ by Soft Cell.

Prior to their performance at Coachella, Boys Noize, the alias of electronic music producer Alex Ridha, previously supported the industrial rock pioneers on their Peel It Back world tour. He’d also join the band each night for an electronic portion of their set.

The partnership between Boys Noize and Nine Inch Nails has also seen him remix Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ movie soundtracks for Challengers and Tron: Ares, which sparked the subsequent project.

Reznor shared in a new statement of the alliance built between Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize, “The creative fulfillment of working on the Challengers and Tron scores with Boys Noize led me to think that including him in the Peel It Back tour could be an interesting way to express NIN in more purely electronic terms live — a concept I’ve wanted to explore for some time.”

He added, “The result was so much fun for us we felt it was worth expanding and formalizing in some way.”

On Coachella, Reznor admitted, “On a whim, I mentioned it would be cool to play a whole set as Nine Inch Noize in the Sahara tent at Coachella. Careful what you wish for … the next thing I knew we were designing a whole new show to present in the way it deserved.”

Reznor also revealed that the album was recorded “all over the place – some of it’s live, some in studios, hotels, planes, etc. We had a lot of fun revisiting these songs and hope you enjoy.” He then instructed fans to “listen LOUD”.

Don’t expect Nine Inch Noize to hit the road after Coachella, though, with Reznor confirming there is “no surprise tour announcement” on the way.

Once the fun of Coachella is over, Reznor is firmly focused on Nine Inch Nails once more, sharing, “I’m taking Sunday off and excited to be working on new Nine Inch Nails music Monday – I’ll see you when I come up for air.”
