Watch the blood-splattered trailer for ‘The Boys’ season four
Amazon Prime Video has released the trailer for the forthcoming fourth season of their superhero black comedy The Boys, which features all of the gruesome and gory spectacles you might expect from the next instalment.
Following on from the chaotic ending of season three, which depicted all main characters experiencing their own versions of turmoil, the trailer for season four begins with Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher delivering a speech to the group about his dying wish to take down Homelander before his time is up.
Soon enough, the trailer shows little space for respite as we’re let in on Homelander’s plans to take back control, explaining his desire to “save” his “corrupt” country, which will require him doing “some terrible things”.
As always, the new season looks like it will up the ante on its anti-celebrity message, providing glimpses into the challenges the characters will have to face to emerge victorious. The trailer also shows a new, long-awaited addition to the cast, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who appears to be on Butcher’s side in the upcoming battle.
To wipe out Homelander and any other superheroes who step in his way, Butcher stumbles across a deadly virus that kills the superheroes, which he views as the only option in their current “insane and desperate” state.
Season four will see the continuation of Butcher’s resentment for malicious supes, namely Homelander, whose connection to legacy Soldier Boy became a major focal point of the entire third season.
There will also be a crossover with the spin-off show, Gen V, as the show brings the narrative of Sam and Cate into the main series. Recently, following the death of British-American actor Chance Perdomo, the streaming platform revealed that it won’t be looking to re-cast the part.
“Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May,” the producers explained. “We will honour Chance and his legacy this season.” They added that they are ”determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory.”
The Boys season four will be streaming on Prime on June 13th. Watch the full trailer below.
