Louis Armstrong was one of the most joyful presences in music and now the lazz legend’s life is set to be brought back to life via a self-financed project by Tracy Morgan.
Speaking to NME, his Coming 2 America co-star Jermaine Fowler spoke about how Morgan is seemingly undervalued as an actor, stating: “I would love to see him do something dramatic. In fact, he showed us a clip of a movie he’s financing that’s really, really dope. He wants to play Louis Armstrong in a biopic and I believe he can do it.”
The Friends of the People actor continued, “He sounds exactly like him and looks exactly like him, and I was blown away by it. If he can truly pull that off I think it’ll put Tracy on another level altogether.”
Tracy Morgan has starred in a plethora of Hollywood roles from Death at a Funeral to voice acting in The Boxtrolls but often his more sincere side has been under-utilised.
Playing Louis Armstrong has been a long-held ambition for the star, having previously explained his desire to portray the jazz icon to Howard Stern on his SiriusXM Radio Show.
As of yet, they’re no concrete details surrounding the potential project, but it is certainly one that many fans of Morgan and the ‘We Have All the Time in the World’ singer will be excited about.
