Toyah Willcox and Robert Frip cover Bon Jovi in new Sunday Lunch video
Toyah Willcox and King Crimson founder Robert Fripp have released another entry into their ‘Sunday Lunch’ cover catalogue. This week, the pair have offered their talents to the Bon Jovi classic ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’.
Bon Jovi released the song in 1986 as the lead single for their hit album, Slippery When Wet. Now, Fripp and his wife Willcox have given it a characteristically whacky remake from their kitchen.
Fripp can be seen performing on the guitar with a false arrow perched on his head. Meanwhile, Willcox can be seen prancing around the room with a red bow and maid’s costume to match. “Shot through the heart/ And you’re to blame/ Darlin’, you give love a bad name,” they sing in the intro before Willcox fires a confetti cannon.
These weekly musical treats began during the Covid-19 pandemic and have been a steady feature of Sunday afternoons ever since. Over the past couple of years, Fripp and Wilcox have covered everything from Metallica to Radiohead and even brought the show to Glastonbury earlier in 2023.
Following Glastonbury, the pair toured with ‘Sunday Lunch’, hitting stages across the United Kingdom throughout October. The brief run included gigs at London Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Manchester Salford Lowry.
Speaking to Eonmusic, Willcox recently revealed that ‘Sunday Lunch’ could also become the source of a new feature film. “We have a documentary crew following us, and we have quite a big production company scripting an idea at the moment.”
“Obviously, we wouldn’t be in it,” she continued, “It’s for actors to play, but that’s all in the back kind of pool of what do you call pre-production. All of that’s going on.”
