Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp share cover of Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’
This Christmas, Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp have delivered a special gift with a festive edition of their covers series. This time, they’ve tackled the Slade classic ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’.
The track became Slade’s final UK number one single when it hit the top of the charts in 1974 for the Birmingham glam-rockers. Since then, it has been a permanent fixture in the seasonal playlist scoring the band eternal fame and fortune.
Married couple Willcox and Fripp decided to reprise the hit this year for fans, stating, “Enjoy this brand new episode featuring a unique take on Slade’s legendary festive classic, ‘Merry Xmas Everyone’.”
The song marks the end of an explosive year for their YouTube channel. Not only have they covered the likes of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, ‘I Predict a Riot’, ‘Have Love Will Travel’, and ‘Hate To Say I Told You So’, but there’s also a movie in the works.
“We have a documentary crew following us, and we have quite a big production company scripting an idea at the moment,” Wilcox said in a new interview with Eonmusic.
“Obviously, we won’t be in it. It’s for actors to play, but that’s all in the back kind of pool of what you call pre-production. All of that’s going on,” she continued. They’ve even been on tour this year, too.
