Tom Waits joins the cast of new stop-motion animation series ‘Ultra City Smiths’


Tom Waits has become the latest high-profile name to join the cast of the new AMC Studios stop-motion animation series Ultra City Smiths.

According to reports, Waits will voice the role of ‘The Narrator’ in the show, which centres around a storyline that is focused on “an investigation into the disappearance of Ultra City’s most famous magnate”. The two pivotal characters, two detectives who have assigned to the case fight against corruption, are forced to overcome dangerous threats to themselves and their families.

Ultra City Smiths, created by Steve Conrad, also includes the likes of Alia Shawkat, John C. Reilly, Tim Heidecker, Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, The Mighty Boosh’s Julian Barratt, Dax Shepard, Alia Shawkat, Terry O’Quinn, Bebe Neuwirth, Jason Mantzoukas, Tim Heidecker, Tim Meadows, Debra Winger and Luiz Guzmán.

Speaking about the new project, Conrad commented: “I’m grateful that this group of actors, who could work with whomever they choose on whatever they choose, chose to work with us.”

Creator Conrad is working as showrunner and executive producer alongside the likes of Seth Green, John Harvatine IV, Matthew Senreich, Eric Towner and Chris Waters of Stoopid Buddy, Jennifer Scher, Jeff Dieter and Thomas J. Glynn.

The first two episodes of the Ultra City Smiths are pencilled in to premiere on AMC+ on Thursday, July 22.
