Tom Morello releases anti-fascist anthem, ‘Adjourn It’, featuring his 15-year-old son
If there’s any current musician committed to using his platform for political good, it’s Tom Morello. His latest track, ‘Adjourn It’, features System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, as well as his own 15-year-old son, Roman.
The song, set to appear on Morello’s forthcoming untitled solo album from independent record label Mom + Pop, opens with the cry, “Make them pay for their crimes, adjourn it, never buy their racist lies, unearth it, help our brother sisters stay, they’ve earned it.”
To make the track, Morello also had Bring Me The Horizon and Yungblud producer Zakk Cervini on board.
Speaking on the biting song, Morello shared, “At this historical juncture every act of art is an act of resistance.”
He added, “A clarion call for justice in unjust times. Inspired by the persecution of immigrants across the land and the heroic resistance to the rising tide of fascism, it’s just about damn time to rock for freedom, justice and equality.”
Morello’s commitment to the cause doesn’t end with the anti-right-wing lyrics. Throughout the new music video, Morello includes clips of a blacklisted 1954 labor rights film, titled Salt Of The Earth.
This decision, the YouTube caption explains, was made “to reflect the song’s theme of resistance in the face of prejudice and injustice.” More than half a century on, the video “continues to echo through today’s political climate”.
The Rage Against The Machine co-founder has been practicing what he preaches in recent months, having protested the ICE raids in Minneapolis earlier this year alongside Bruce Springsteen.
More recently, he joined a Hands Off New York protest outside the ICE field office and immigration court. There, he rallied the crowd by singing a version of Woody Guthrie’s ‘This Land Is Your Land‘.
Looking toward the future, Morello’s next event, Power To The People, will take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, on October 3rd. Foo Fighters, Joan Baez, Jack Black, Springsteen and more will lend a hand to fighting the good fight.
