Tom Holland to star in adaptation of John Grisham’s ‘The Partner’
Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is set to star in and produce an adaptation of John Grisham’s best-selling 1997 novel, The Partner, according to Deadline.
The upcoming project is set to have a screenplay written by Graham Moore of The Imitation Game. While many of Grisham’s novels, including The Firm, The Client, The Runaway Jury, The Pelican Brief, and The Rainmaker, have previously been adapted for the big screen, The Partner has never been made into a film.
New Regency did once acquire the rights to adapt The Partner, which was set to be director John Lee Hancock’s next project after The Blind Side. However, the movie never came to fruition, and once the rights expired, Rideback picked them up ahead of joining forces with Universal and Holland. It will be made in collaboration with Holland’s new production company Billy17.
Grisham’s official site says of The Partner’s plot: “Once he was a well-liked, well-paid young partner in a thriving Mississippi law firm. Then Patrick Lanigan stole ninety million dollars from his own firm—and ran for his life. For four years, he evaded men who were rich and powerful, and who would stop at nothing to find him. Then, inevitably, on the edge of the Brazilian jungle, they finally tracked him down.”
The novel’s synopsis continues: “Now Patrick is coming home. And in the Mississippi city where it all began, an extraordinary trial is about to begin. As prosecutors circle like sharks, as Patrick’s lawyer prepares his defense, as Patrick’s lover prays for his deliverance and his former partners wait for their revenge, another story is about to emerge. Because Patrick Lanigan, the most reviled white-collar criminal of his time, knows something that no one else in the world knows. He knows the truth.”
In addition to The Partner, Holland is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s new movie, The Odyssey. At this stage, little information is known about the Oppenheimer director’s next project, which is slated for release in summer 2026.
Holland will also reprise his role as Peter Parker in a fourth Spider-Man movie in the near future.
