Tom Holland “honoured” to be handpicked by Christopher Nolan for new movie
Following the announcement that Tom Holland is set to star in the latest cinematic vision by Christopher Nolan, the Spiderman: No Way Home actor talked about how honoured he is to be working alongside the director.
While details surrounding the movie have been fairly scarce, Holland is said to star opposite Matt Damon, who had previously worked with Nolan on films such as Interstellar and 2023’s Oppenheimer. It will also be produced by Nolan with his wife, Emma Thomas, with whom he has made all of his films.
When discussing the project, Holland said that it was a tremendous honour to be working on the film, telling Good Morning America, “All I can say is that I’m incredibly excited. And obviously honoured, but that’s all I can say because, to be honest, that’s all I know.”
Holland also went on to confirm that Nolan was the calibre of director that he was happy to work alongside without having knowledge of the script, saying he’d happily done this “without a shadow of a doubt.”
Discussing the phone call he had with the iconic director prior to his casting, Holland said that he had the same adrenaline rush that he hadn’t felt since getting offered the job to be Spider-Man a decade ago for Captain America: Civil War. Outside of the limited information surrounding the film, Holland has said that he is “super proud” at the prospect of working on the picture.
While Damon’s involvement in the movie has been solidified, the director is reportedly plotting to ensemble star-studded cast for the mysterious project. Although Cillian Murphy has not been confirmed as part of the cast, he has been an integral part of Nolan’s films for years, only just getting top billing in Oppenheimer and starring in various supporting roles in films like Dunkirk and Batman Begins. Therefore, he will naturally be linked to the upcoming picture.
The news also comes after Holland signed to work on the next instalment of his time as Spider-Man, which will begin shooting in the summer of 2025. Continuing in the ongoing MCU saga, Holland is expected to join the ensemble cast for the latest Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday.
This is the first film that Nolan has worked on since his critically acclaimed film Oppenheimer, in 2023, which received seven Academy Awards in 2024, including the gongs for ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director.’
Ever since his iconic role as the famous wall-crawling superhero, Holland has also kept busy working on the short film Last Call in 2023 and starring as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet on London’s West End.
