Guy Ritchie’s ‘MobLand’ renewed for second series

The Paramount+ drama MobLand, directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Tom Hardy in the lead role, has been renewed for a second series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series has been greenlit for a second instalment following the mass audiences it pulled in for the streaming platform, racking up a cumulative 26 million viewers.

The series, which features an all-star cast including Gardy, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Helen Mirren, follows the stories of two rival family mob gangs as they meet for a range of heated clashes which could potentially change the course of the rest of their lives.

Given the huge success it created when its first series was released earlier this year, Paramount CEO Chris McCarthy said in a statement: “With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph — driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez [Butterworth, writer], Ronan [Bennett, the show’s creator] and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce, and Helen.”

He added: “We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to number one in the UK.”

Executive produced by both Ritchie and Hardy, the announcement of the next instalment of the high-octane series comes as the actor recently admitted that his “body is falling to bits now” after years of hard stunts on the sets of major Hollywood blockbusters, including his lead role in the Marvel franchise Venom.

Further details with regard to the premise, filming, and release for the second series of MobLand have yet to be revealed, but it will once again stream on Paramount+.
