Timothy Busfield surrenders to police following child sex abuse allegations

West Wing actor Timothy Busfield has surrendered to police after being charged with child sex abuse.

The 68-year-old faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and an open count of child abuse.

On January 13th, after several days of police searching for him, Busfield turned himself in to the police in New Mexico.

Gilbert Gallegos, director of communications for the Albuquerque Police Department, said in a statement, “Timothy Busfield has turned himself in at the Metro Detention Center. He will be booked on his warrant.”

His surrender came shortly after TMZ obtained a video of Busfield denying the allegations made against him.

In the video, Busfield stated, “I got the call Friday night, I had to get a lawyer. Saturday I got in the car, drove 2,000 miles to Albuquerque. I’m gonna confront these lies. They’re horrible.”

He continued, “They’re all lies and I did not do anything to those little boys and I’m gonna fight it. I’m gonna fight it with a great team, and I’m gonna be exonerated, I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies.”

It comes after a warrant for his arrest was issued on January 9th in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The investigation into Busfield began in November 2024, following reports from staff at the University of New Mexico Hospital, who told police that they believed children were being groomed on the set of the Fox crime series The Cleaning Lady.

Busfield is accused of engaging in sexually abusing two boys, now aged 11, who he is alleged to have met through the television show, which he directed. The actor denies the allegations.

After the arrest warrant was issued, an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit starring Busfield, which was due to premiere this week, has since been pulled from schedules.
