Timothée Chalamet wants Austin Butler to play Elvis Presley in new Bob Dylan biopic
Following the release of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two, Timothée Chalamet is set to turn his attention to portraying Bob Dylan in a new biopic, and announced his wishes for co-star Austin Butler to join him in the film to reprise his performance of Elvis Presley.
Before Butler joined the Dune cast, he took on the titular role in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. His leading performance was widely acclaimed, even earning him a nomination for ‘Best Actor’ at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony.
Now, Chalamet is set to star in a biopic of his own, portraying Dylan in the James Mangold-directed A Complete Unknown. Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, and Edward Norton will take on supporting roles.
When the Dune: Part Two stars both sat down with NME, Chalamet noted that he had been picking Butler’s brains for advice on how to embody a musical icon. “I can’t wait for that film,” Butler admitted, “I wish I could be on set every day to just watch the magic happen.”
Chalamet went on to share his wishes for Butler to make a cameo as Elvis in the film. “I wish you were in it!” he enthused, “There’s an Elvis character in the Johnny Cash biopic [Walk The Line]. It’s really brief, it’s very brief, but I was kind of wishing we could create a musical cinematic universe.”
A release date is yet to be confirmed for A Complete Unknown. Dune: Part Two is out now. In a four-and-a-half star review of the film, Far Out wrote, “Butler actually manages to steal the show at certain moments as the film’s new antagonist, a deranged and violent psychopath handed reign of Arakkis by his uncle.”
