Timothée Chalamet reveals love of Susan Boyle: “Who wasn’t moved by that?”
Timothée Chalamet has curated a list of his favourite Brits, and has included none other than Scottish singer and unlikely icon Susan Boyle.
As per the BBC, the Call Me By Your Name star was asked to compile a list of his Brits who he deems to be all-time greats. He began confidently, listing “Lewis Hamilton, David and Victoria.”
Chalamet also added London rapper Fakemink to the list, who recently collaborated with EsDeeKid, the anonymous drill artist from Liverpool who has been curiously linked to the tight-lipped Chalamet.
Considering who to choose for his fifth favourite, Chalamet took a long pause. Eventually, he landed on the most surprising of names: “Susan Boyle.”
The 64-year-old singer was a former Britain’s Got Talent contestant, who went on to have two US number one albums. Earnestly, Chalamet shared, “She dreamt bigger than all of us.”
He then referenced a viral 2009 clip of the Scottish star performing the emotional ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ from Les Misérables on the talent show, which remains one of the most viewed clips in the show’s long history. “Who wasn’t moved by that?” he said.
Chalamet continued, “I remember that like it was yesterday. That was like the advent of YouTube, you know.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Chalamet discussed his upcoming movie Marty Supreme, a sports epic directed by Josh Safdie, which is loosely based on the real-life ping-pong legend Marty Reisman.
He mused, “You know, when you’re in your early twenties, you’re an idiot. And this movie, in large part, is about being an idiot in your early twenties.”
The 29-year-old continued, “And if on top of that, you have a passion that you’re singular about, you risk looking foolish in addition to being an idiot.”
Happily for Chalamet, this year Boyle revealed that she has returned to the recording studio for the first time in six years. This suggests an eventual follow-up to her last album, 2016’s A Wonderful World.
Marty Supreme is set to arrive in UK cinemas on December 26th, 2025. Watch the viral clip cherished by Chalamet below.
