Watch Timothée Chalamet star in first trailer for Josh Safdie’s ‘Marty Supreme’

The first trailer has arrived for the new A24 movie, Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet.

The film, directed by Josh Safdie, stars Chalamet as ping-pong player Marty Mauser, who is on the pursuit of following his dreams in table tennis. Gwyneth Paltrow also stars as the wife of a rival player, who becomes entangled with Mauser. It is set for release on December 25th, 2025.

In the clip, Mauser shares his belief that ping-pong will take over the world, stating, “I know it’s hard to believe, but I’m telling you, this game, it fills stadiums overseas. And it’s only a matter of time before I’m staring at you from the cover of a Wheaties box.”

The lead character is based loosely on the real-life story of ping-pong ace Marty Reisman, who was a hustler in New York City during the 1940s before climbing the ladder to become a great of his sport during the ’50s, which the film depicts.

During an appearance on This Past Weekend with Theo Von, shortly after they finished wrapping the movie last December, Chalamet said of the hectic shoot: “This crazy director, Josh Safdie, it has kind of that (Uncut Gems) energy, that chaotic thing. It wasn’t like a low-energy shoot. This was like 16-hour days for three months, Josh put me through the wringer man.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Paltrow said when asked about the plot for the movie, “I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie”.

“This woman who is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were,” Paltrow also said of her character in the upcoming A24 movie. “They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both.”

The electric cast also includes Odessa A’zion, Abel Ferrara, as well as Shark Tank businessman Kevin O’Leary, and magician Penn Jillette. Musical superstar Tyler, the Creator (real name Tyler Okonma) also has a major role.
