Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t want intimacy coordinator for sex scenes with Timothée Chalamet in ‘Marty Supreme’
Gwyneth Paltrow has provided an update on her new movie, Marty Supreme, which stars her alongside Timothée Chalamet. She revealed that they chose to reduce the role of an intimacy coordinator for sex scenes in the film.
The new motion picture, directed by Benny Safdie, has similarities to the tale of real-life ping-pong professional Marty Reisman, but A24 insists it is a fictionalised, original story. Marty Supreme marks Safdie’s third movie with A24, following his previous features, Uncut Gems and Good Time, which he made alongside his brother Benny.
In addition to starring Chalamet in the lead role and Paltrow as his romantic partner, Marty Supreme also features rapper Tyler, the Creator.
Much remains unknown about the forthcoming movie, set for release on December 25th, 2025, but Paltrow has lifted the lid somewhat on what viewers should expect. “I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie,” Paltrow said in a new interview with Vanity Fair before adding, “There’s a lot—a lot.”
“This woman who is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were,” Paltrow explained of her character in the upcoming A24 movie. “They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both.”
Paltrow also described Chalamet as “a thinking man’s sex symbol” who is “very polite”, “properly raised”, and “a man who takes his work really seriously” which makes him a “fun partner” to work alongside.
In the same piece, Safdie explained why Paltrow was the perfect person to cast in the movie due to her personal circumstances which saw her take an extended break from Hollywood, stating she is “deeply connected to the part she plays”.
While Paltrow has been away from Hollywood since Avengers: Endgame in 2019, significant changes have occurred, including the use of intimacy coordinators. Paltrow said she “did not know” they existed, explaining, “I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.”
For Marty Supreme, they chose against using an intimacy coordinator with Paltrow stating, “We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.” The actor also said she would feel “very stifled” artistically if she had somebody directing her co-star where they needed to put their hands.
