A24 set release date for ‘Marty Supreme’, starring Timothée Chalamet
A24 has announced that Josh Safdie’s upcoming movie, Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, will be released on December 25th, 2025.
The new film is inspired by real-life ping pong professional Marty Reisman, combined with a fictionalised, original story. Marty Supreme marks Safdie’s third movie with A24 following his previous features, Uncut Gems and Good Time, which he made alongside his brother Benny.
Reisman, who died in 2012, won 22 major ping-pong titles and five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. He also participated in the United States National Hardbat Championship, becoming the oldest player to win an open national competition in a racket sport.
With a budget of $70 million, Marty Supreme is A24’s joint most-expensive production in its history along with The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson. Marty Supreme also features Tyler, The Creator, Gwyneth Paltrow, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrera and Sandra Bernard.
In a recent appearance on This Past Weekend with Theo Von, Chalamet said of Marty Supreme: “This crazy director, Josh Safdie, it has kind of that (Uncut Gems) energy, that chaotic thing. It wasn’t like a low-energy shoot. This was like 16-hour days for three months.”
Chalamet recently concluded filming the movie, which was an intense shoot for the actor. “He put me through the wringer,” he told Von. “I felt like he was testing me, early on. Early on, we had stuff that could have been done by stunt guys… and I saw him wanting me to do it.”
While it was challenging to work with Safdie, Chalamet believes he has the potential to be an all-time great director, adding, “Josh is the real deal, man. Seriously, Josh Safdie is the modern-day Scorsese.”
Meanwhile, Chalamet’s next movie, A Complete Unknown, in which he portrays Bob Dylan during the early years of his career, is set for release on December 25th, 2024, in the United States, and January 17th, 2025, in the United Kingdom.
