Timothée Chalamet confirms ‘Dune: Part Three’ time jump
Timothée Chalamet has confirmed that Dune: Part Three will take place nearly two decades after the second movie.
When appearing on The Graham Norton Show on December 12th, the Wonka actor was asked about his new appearance, which included a buzz cut instead of his usual signature medium-length curls.
Chalamet went on to explain that his hair had been cut short for the third installment of the dystopian sci-fi franchise.
“It was for a film,” he said of his haircut, adding, “for Dune: Part Three, and there’s supposed to be a nice character shift. And I’m playing 15, 20 years older, so we did a three millimeter haircut, I think it’s called,” Chalamet explained.
He continued, “Then the director wanted more, 1.5. Then we did one, and I begged him,” Chalamet admitted, referencing Denis Villeneuve, “I said, ‘Please, please, like … Your hair, weirdly, we’re all attached, it’s kind of like our personality.”
Last September, Villeneuve confirmed that Dune 3 would be his final movie in the series. “First, it’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych,” the director confirmed when discussing the first two films on Vanity Fair’s Little Gold Men podcast.
The time jump makes sense, considering he wanted to differentiate the third addition from the first two: “It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done, and that’s finished.”
He added, “If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”
Dune: Part Three will star Chalamet alongside Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson, Ida Brooke, Jason Momoa, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Ferguson, and more.
Villeneuve co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts. It is based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah.
