Time for last orders: ‘The Bear’ to end in June with fifth and final season

FX have confirmed that the fifth season of The Bear is due to air in June.

The upcoming season, which has been confirmed to be the last series, will be made available on June 25th on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ internationally.

Rather than make viewers wait a week for each episode, The Bear will stick with its binge format, allowing fans of the show to book June 25th off work and take the day to devour all eight episodes before the Chicago kitchen closes for the final time.

The synopsis reads, “The fifth and final season of FX’s The Bear picks up the morning after Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri), Richard ‘Richie’ Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie ‘Sugar’ Berzatto (Abby Elliott) discover that Head Chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant to them.”

After finding themselves in this perilous situation without the glue that kept the kitchen together, it’s up to the rest of the gang to somehow find a way to still achieve their ultimate dream.

The synopsis adds, “With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant ‘perfect’ might not be the food, but the people.”

The ensemble cast for season five also includes Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas and Matty Matheson, with Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter and Jamie Lee Curtis set to feature in recurring roles.

The announcement comes just a day after a surprise standalone prequel episode, titled Gary, arrived on streaming services.

The episode follows Moss-Bachrach’s Richie and Bernthal’s Mikey on a trip to Gary, Indiana, prior to the first season taking place.

According to the official description, the new episode aims to shine a light on the pair’s “complicated relationship, uncovering new layers of Mikey’s mental state while offering crucial insight into the man Richie is when audiences first meet him in Season 1 — adding emotional context that reframes their story from the very beginning.”

While The Bear’s popularity has waned slightly since the first two seasons, it still remains one of the jewels in the crown for FX and Hulu.

Over its four-year run, it has won a grand total of 21 Emmys, and although its run is edging towards its end, The Bear has established itself as one of the defining television shows of the 2020s.
