Tim Commerford doesn’t know if Rage Against the Machine have split

Drummer Brad Wilk confirmed the disbandment of Rage Against the Machine earlier this year, but now, bassist Tim Commerford has stated that he doesn’t know the band’s current status.

In early January, Wilk stated that the band would no longer play live together, marking their third disbandment. However, in a fresh update, Commerford revealed he hasn’t been told their story is over.

During a conversation with Rolling Stone, Commerford was asked about their future, and simply responded, “I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player. I just wait for someone to tell me what to do.”

“Brad said what he said,” he continued, “but he’s one step above me. He’s in the number three spot. I am the low man on the totem pole. That’s all I can tell you. I’m the bass player. The bass players always are the last people to find out about shit like that.”

Though Wilk confirmed the band’s break-up, Commerford still seems ready and willing to play at any moment. “When the Rage light gets shined up in the clouds, like the Bat-Signal that Batman would see and would know he had to go do some shit… That’s how I live it. And that feels the best for me,” he added.

Before Wilk announced the disbandment, Rage Against the Machine embarked upon a reunion tour in 2022. Playing for the first time in over a decade, they took to stages across North America, including five nights at Madison Square Garden.

The UK and European legs of their tour were cancelled, as well as appearances at Reading and Leeds festival, as frontman Zach de la Rocha had injured his leg.
