Ticketmaster caps Olivia Dean resale prices after public call-out
Ticketmaster has taken action after popstar Olivia Dean called the organisation out for their “disgusting” resale prices.
On November 21st, Dean posted an Instagram story that lashed out at Ticketmaster, Live Nation and AEG Presents, after resale ticket prices to her 2026 North American tour soared.
Tickets for Dean’s ‘The Art of Loving Tour’ sold out in minutes on the same day, and resale prices climbed swiftly to thousands of dollars for US fans.
Directly calling out the organisations on social media, she wrote, “The prices at which you’re allowing tickets to be re-sold is vile and completely against our wishes. Live music should be affordable and accessible and we need to find a new way of making that possible. BE BETTER.”
Ticketmaster has since responded to her public call-out. Michael Rapino, the CEO of Live Nation Entertainment, shared, “We share Olivia’s desire to keep live music accessible and ensure fans have the best access to affordable tickets.”
He added, “While we can’t require other marketplaces to honour artists’ resale preferences, we echo Olivia’s call to ‘Do Better’ and have taken steps to lead by example.”
Rapino finished, “We hope efforts like this help fans afford another show they’ve been considering—or discover someone new.”
The organisation shared telling statistics from the sale of her US tour, which saw demand so high that Dean agreed to three more shows at Madison Square Garden.
After they reviewed the data, the company found that less than 20% of primary tickets were listed for resale. This showed “that Olivia’s demand was driven by genuine fans who intend to go to the show rather than resellers out for profit.”
This news comes soon after the UK government announced it would be making it illegal to resell tickets for live music, sports, comedy and theatre events above the original cost. This is set to save fans £112million per year.
