Radiohead’s frontman Thom Yorke has been doing a lot of teasing recently. As the hype gathered pace with interview hints, teasers videos and the like, we were starting to wonder whether the LP would ever arrive. Well, now we have our answer; Thom Yorke’s new solo album ANIMA will arrive next week.
Due out on June 27th, ANIMA is the first solo LP since 2014’s Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, excluding his Suspiria score from last year. A nine-track album, it appears the LP will be a concept record about Anima Technologies, a company which poses daunting existential questions like “Do you have trouble remembering your dreams?”
The new album will also come alongside a ‘one-reeler’ which in simple terms is a short film (that fits on one reel) and was extremely popular during the silent film era. The film will be available to stream Netflix and is set to three songs from the new record. It’s described like so: “In a short musical film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Thom Yorke of Radiohead scores and stars in a mind-bending visual piece. Best played loud.”
