The xx are preparing to create their eagerly anticipated fourth album, the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed I See You.

While members of the band are often busy working away on their respected side projects, bassist and singer Oliver Sim revealed to Matt Everitt on BBC Radio 6 Music that the band have been in contact to bat around ideas.

While keeping relatively tight-lipped, Sim confirmed that he has recently met up with guitarist and singer Romy Madley Croft. Following that, the bass player arranged a meeting with the Jamie xx to talk through their future plans.

“I’ve done a lot of work with Romy in the last couple of weeks,” Sim told 6 Music. “I’ve done a lot of work with Jamie, but we haven’t had that moment yet of all three of us being in the room together,” he added.

Asked why the trip haven’t been sat in the same room to work through ideas, Sim explained that all three members of the band have been working independently “as if we’re making our own records.”

He added: “We’re still very much figuring it out. I feel very curious. Though it does feel like a long time since the first record, we’re still new to it all.”
