Since announcing their incredible residency at their hometown venue the Brixton Academy, The xx have also added some unimaginable special guests including Robyn, Sampha, Cat Power and more. Add to that they have now announced a series of cinema events to coincide with the residency.
Curated by the band they have put together a set of feature films, guest director picks and other treats. Each day will see a new focus for the event which takes place between 8th-15th March. The 8th sees ‘A Celebration of Club Culture’ with the first screening of All Junglists! London Some’ting Dis while on the 9th it is all ‘Gurl Talk’ with a screening of The Virgin Suicides. Jeremy Deller, Andrea Arnold and Roman Gavras take over the 10th, 11th and 12th respectively.
The 13th sees The xx’s own ‘On Hold’ given the big screen treatment alongdisde Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho. Romeo + Juliet follows on the next day and film music takes the centre of proceedings for the last day of the cinema programming.
It’s going to be one hell of a week.
