The Who are “not confident” they’ll bring farewell tour to the UK

The Who have announced plans for a farewell tour in North America later this year. However, they do not currently plan to bring it to the UK.

Their final set of dates will take place across August and September. Notable stops on the road include visits to iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Fenway Park in Boston. They’ll play their final date on September 28th in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

While they are saying goodbye to America, The Who could theoretically play again in the UK in the future, but as it stands, they have yet to look that far ahead.

Speaking on Zoom at the Iconic Gallery in London at a press conference, attended by Far Out, to announce their new tour, Roger Daltrey jokingly said of the prospect of bringing it to the UK, “Let’s see if we survive this one.”

Daltrey continued: “I’ve just finished a solo tour in the UK, and I’ve got to say that touring in America is a damn sight easier than touring the UK, because, for some reason or the other, the UK has decided to make it as difficult as possible to go from A to B. And in America, you seem to want to make it as easy as possible. But we are in the land of the no.”

The Who frontman earnestly added: “I don’t want to say that there won’t be, but equally, I’m not confident to say there will be. That’s the honest answer to that.”

Meanwhile, Pete Townshend shared: “I would agree completely. I think I really enjoyed the last tour that we did, but it was a strange one. We played a lot of open air gigs. We’d had an insurance problem, which meant that we couldn’t play some of the more classic places that one plays on a UK tour.”

However, the idea of a residency at one venue is a suggestion that Townshend finds more appealing, “But you know, the door is open to us. We could do a week at the O2, a couple of weeks maybe at the Royal Albert Hall. There are all kinds of things we could do. But you know, we don’t do consecutive shows. We like to do a show and then take a break.”

Daltrey then explained that, due to medical advice from his throat doctor, he needs to take a day off between shows, which is extended to two days off after every third concert.
