The Stooges – ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’
Today, the world lost one of its brightest burning lights, a rock star sometimes dimmed by the excesses of success, but needless to say, it’s left an afterglow we will continue to bask in for decades to come.
The world awoke today to hear the news that Scott Asheton had died at age 64. His incredible contribution to music is encapsulated in this furious Track Of The Day, and it’s The Stooges with ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’.
Co-founder of the band Iggy Pop, Asheton remained a true artist until his dying day, always rejecting commercial success for artistic gratification.
A classic song that still resonates with Generation X, Y and the rest of the alphabet, the intensity at which the song travels and unravels is astonishing and undeniable, ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’ is an incredible feat of proto-punk power.
We will leave you with a few words from a friend and fellow fighter, Iggy Pop. R.I.P Scott Asheton.
“Scott was a great artist. I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton’s have always been and continue to be a second family to me.
“My thoughts are with his sister Kathy, his wife Liz and his daughter Leanna, who was the light of his life.”
