‘The Sopranos’ actor James Gandolfini once threatened to “beat the fuck out” of Harvey Weinstein
James Gandolfini, the late and great actor who earned fame with his performance in iconic television series The Sopranos, once threatened to beat up convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein.
Weinstein, a former film producer who sat atop of Hollywood after founding the entertainment company Miramax and The Weinstein Company, is currently serving 23 years in prison after being found guilty of two out of five sex crimes.
The sex offender, who has been the subject of allegations made by more than 80 women, sparked the #MeToo movement as a wave of victims came forward to bravely speak out against his actions. Those courageous women managed to kickstart the “Weinstein effect”, a trend which unearthed numerous crimes committed by men in positions of power across the globe.
While it was speculated for many years that Weinstein was abusing his position of power with devastating effect, it took a prolonged period of time before he was finally brought to justice. Reflecting on some of his actions in years gone by, fellow Sopranos actors Steve Schirripa and Michael Imperioli have remembered a moment when the great Gandolfini nearly came to blows with Weinstein.
Schirripa remembered: “He said, ‘Harvey Weinstein keeps calling, he wants me to do Letterman and I said no.’”
Adding: “And he got fucking nasty with Jim. And Jim said, ‘I will beat the fuck out of Harvey Weinstein! He fucking calls me again, I will beat the fuck out of him! For the money he paid me, I’m not fucking doing it!’ Swear to God. And this is before all the Harvey Weinstein shit when he was still king shit.”
