The Soft Moon’s Luis Vasquez has died
Luis Vasquez, the Los Angeles musician better known as The Soft Moon, has passed away.
Vasquez was the sole member of The Soft Moon and started producing music under the alias in 2009. Their debut album arrived in 2010, bringing together a multitude of genres under a dark sonic umbrella. The Soft Moon released four more full-length studio records, with their final release, Exister, arriving in 2022.
In a statement shared on social media, The Soft Moon announced Vasquez’s death. The post reads: “It is with great sadness that we announce our dear friend, Luis Vasquez has passed away. “Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends and extended music family.”
“We ask to respect their privacy during this difficult time,” the statement continues. They also said: “If you have any memories of Luis, no matter if you were a close friend of his or not, please feel free to share.”
The message concluded by writing: “This is a huge loss and our hearts are broken”.
At this stage, details surrounding Vasquez’s death are limited. However, it’s believed he lost his life in the same incident that also killed John Juan Mendez, better known as DJ Silent Servant, and Mendez’s partner Simone Ling.
In tribute to Silent Servant, the Blessed Madonna wrote on X: “RIP Juan Silent Servant, whose music has been a fixture in my life and my husband’s for as long as I can remember. I’m immensely grateful for the pleasure of booking Juan at Smartbar and seeing him play many times. Love to everyone who is in deep grief today.”
Meanwhile, The KVB paid tribute to the trio on the same social media platform, writing: “Too heartbroken for words and struggling to believe that three of our dear friends have passed away far too soon. We will always remember Juan, Simone and Luis.”
