The Smile share brand new single ‘Friend Of A Friend’
The Smile have released their brand new single, ‘Friend Of A Friend’, a trip of a track that is equal parts sweet and psychedelic, offering an exciting introduction to the band’s upcoming sophomore album.
‘Friend Of A Friend’ won’t be completely new to fans who attended their most recent tour, as they integrated it into their sets. However, the new studio recording of the song comes with strings by the London Contemporary Orchestra, saxophone by Robert Stillman and looping lyrics that layer over one another for a trippy effect.
The Smile’s new album, Wall of Eyes, is due for release on January 26th through XL Recordings. Additionally, throughout cinemas worldwide between the dates of January 18th and 25th, independent cinemas will be showing the video premiere for the new single alongside a full playback of the album.
The showing will also feature never-before-seen footage of the band’s recording sessions and a program that looks back over Paul Thomas Anderson’s previous directorial collaborations with Radiohead and Thom Yorke.
Until then, the three singles released from the new album, ‘Friend Of A Friend’ ‘Bending Hectic’ and leading single ‘Wall Of Eyes’ are available on all streaming platforms. The trio of tracks provide a serene look into what promises to be a journey of an LP.
Last year, The Smile announced plans to tour the United Kingdom and Europe in 2024 in support of Wall Of Eyes. The run of dates will begin at the 3Arena in Dublin on March 7th before visiting Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam. The trio will then play a handful of shows in the UK, concluding at London’s Alexandra Palace on March 24th.
