The National's Matt Berninger takes aim at PM Boris Johnson

The National’s frontman, Matt Berninger has taken a shot at Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the band opened their Uk tour in Brighton over the weekend.

Arriving in Brighton to begin the UK tour of their critically adored eighth album I Am Easy To Find Berninger chose the moment to put Boris Johnson firmly in his crosshairs, all while taking the crowd through a rollercoaster of a set of classics and newer hits.

“I had a list of people that I wanted to say mean things about,” said singer Berninger, introducing ‘About Today’ as part of their wonderful encore. “This is for our families… This is not for Boris.”

Berninger continued: “If this shit happens to you guys, you have no idea how bad it is. It’s fucking terrible. Hopefully, you guys have some politicians with character and backbone to stand up to the morons. We’re lacking in character and backbone in Ohio.”

You can watch that moment and The National’s wonderful cover of the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song ‘Ohio’ following a fan handing them a flag of their home state of the same name.
