The Monkees announce surprise 2020 tour dates

The Monkeys, led by original members Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith, will play a string of tour surprise North American tour dates next year.

The tour coincides with the news that the band intend to release their new live album, The Mike & Micky Show Live, which will be released on April 3rd.

The decision to head back out on the road is a shock one, especially considering a recent statement made by Nesmith who claimed a recent tour of Australia would be his last. I committed to an Australian tour, but I am expecting that will be it for me,” he wrote via the band’s official Facebook page after completion of the Australian dates.

He added: “I start to feel curmudgeonly more and more and less and less suited for singing pop songs—clever and happy and fun to play as they are—but is a bit like singing ‘Happy Birthday’ over and over. Combine that with the fact that Television Music was never my first pursuit. People who like my work have another clear window they can see through — if they choose. But—in any case—the shows wear me down.”

Now though, he’s giving it one last hurrah and will kick things off in April with a show in Vancouver. From there the band will play for three weeks and play 14 shows before ending up in Nashville.
