Are The Maccabees teasing new music?
It seems like beloved British indie band The Maccabees could be teasing new music ahead of their live shows this summer.
After seven years of silence, the band announced their reunion in late 2024 and went on to storm the festival circuit as well as their own tour last summer, which included massive stops at Glastonbury and All Points East.
The band subsequently announced a further run of summer gigs for this year, where they are set to play in London, Cornwall, Bristol, Brighton, and Leeds over the course of July.
However, they have upped the excitement in a new Instagram post shared on June 23rd, in which they showed snippets of the setlist that includes beloved hits like ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ and ‘Marks to Prove It’.
Notably, though, eagle-eyed fans may have noticed some unfamiliar additions to the list, such as the songs ‘Ballad of So Long’ and ‘She’.
This is heavily fuelling speculation that, some 11 years on from the release of their last album Marks to Prove It in 2015, The Maccabees could be gearing up to putting out new music.
It would make sense in the context that Felix White said, upon the announcement of their 2026 dates late last year, “The year we’ve just had was so special to all of us, and so unexpected, that it has put some momentum in everyone collectively… and who wouldn’t want to do all that again?”
The guitarist recently sat down for a Proustian pint as part of Far Out’s Existential Boozer, where among topics including his jealousy for 16-year-old Arsenal player Max Dowman, White opened up on the perspective that the break from the band gave him.
“I’ve always just felt like being a guitar player in a band, and that sort of feels, without disrespect to anyone, like a bit of a two-dimensional existence now when I look back on it,” he admitted.
