The Jaded Hearts Club share cover of Marvin Gaye’s ‘This Love Starved Heart Of Mine (It’s Killing Me)’
Supergroup The Jaded Hearts Club, which features the likes of Muse’s Matt Bellamy and Miles Kane, have shared their cover of Marvin Gaye song ‘This Love Starved Heart Of Mine (It’s Killing Me)’ which sees Jet member Nic Cester take up lead vocals.
The track, which was originally recorded by Gaye around 1967 not long after he broke through with ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’, wouldn’t see the light of day until a decade after his death in 1994.
Founding member of The Jaded Hearts Club, Jamie Davis talked about why the band chose to cover the Gaye classic, revealing: “As soon as I heard ‘This Love Starved Heart Of Mine’ I knew Nic Cester from Jet is one of the few people who could actually sing it. Nic’s vocal has that gut-wrenching on-pitch scream and raw charisma that provide the driving power needed. The track is like a runaway train — big, brassy, brash… a soul classic.”
Davis then added: “We listened to hours and hours of songs from the Northern Soul/Motown period to choose the right 10 for an album,” Bellamy said. “This perfectly sums up what we are trying to do as The Jaded Hearts Club — to shed light on some of the greatest lost songs ever written.”
The group’s full line up currently consists of Miles Kane, Jamie Davis, Matt Bellamy, The Zutons’ Sean Payne and Graham Coxon. They were formed originally as a Beatles tribute act as Davis who used to run Coxon’s Transcopic Records couldn’t find one in LA to perform at his birthday party in 2017 so instead took it upon himself to form his own, the group have played the odd show and were once even joined by Paul McCartney.
