‘The Inbetweeners’ set for a comeback in 2026
The Inbetweeners, the hit comedy series, is set to make a comeback after over a decade away from the screen, after its creators confirmed a deal had been struck.
The show, which originally ran on Channel 4 from 2008 to 2010 and subsequently spawned two major films in 2011 and 2014, respectively, is being geared up for a return, as its creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris said in a statement: “Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends).”
No significant further details have been revealed about the nature of the comeback, apart from the fact that Beesley and Morris’s production company, Fudge Pack, has struck a deal with Banijay UK to helm the project.
This “unlocks the rights and the potential to bring The Inbetweeners back for new audiences across a range of platforms, including film, TV, and stage,” according to a statement from the latter, although it is not yet clear which form any of these outlets will take.
Patrick Holland, the chief executive of Banijay UK, said he was “delighted to pick up the conversation about the future” with the creators of the show, adding, “They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audience old and new so I can’t wait to get going.”
It is being predicted that the reboot will feature the same original core cast, consisting of Simon Bird playing Will McKenzie, Joe Thomas playing Simon Cooper, Blake Harrison playing Neil Sutherland, and James Buckley playing Jay Cartwright. The four formed the central group of awkward sixth-formers navigating the very beginning of adult life in the original series.
Last year, Thomas hinted towards a potential reunion while appearing on the Always Be Comedy podcast, saying, “All of us feel it would be nice to do,” before noting, “We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it.”
