The Flaming Lips cancel concert after Wayne Coyne hospitalised with pneumonia
The Flaming Lips were forced to cancel their scheduled concert in Vienna after frontman Wayne Coyne was hospitalised with pneumonia.
The American psychedelic rockers are currently in the midst of a UK and European summer tour, where they were meant to play in the Austrian capital on June 15th.
However, the band took to Instagram earlier in the day to announce some unfortunate news to fans, revealing that frontman Coyne had been sent to hospital with the respiratory infection.
Sharing a photo of Coyne in a hospital bed, while attached to a heart monitor and wearing a face mask, the band wrote: “We are truly sorry, Vienna, but our show tonight at Gasometer is cancelled.”
They added: “Wayne has pneumonia and has been ordered to bed rest. All refunds will be available from your point of purchase. We hope to see you again, Austria!”
At present, the rockers have issued no further update as to Coyne’s condition or what this means for their upcoming shows, as they are set to continue the tour from June 18th at the Bonsai Garden in Bologna, Italy.
Thereafter, they are set to also play dates in Prague, Belgrade, Zagreb, and Kallithéa in Greece throughout the rest of this month, before heading to the UK and Ireland in July.
For that part of the tour, they are billed to perform shows in Galway, Margate, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Halifax, London, Southwold, Glasgow, Cardiff, and Brighton.
The latter is a support slot, where the band will join Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds for their massive Brighton homecoming show at Preston Park on July 31st.
