The Cure to release new material for first time in 16 years

After almost two decades since they last shared material, The Cure are finally set to release two new tracks on October 1st.

While The Cure have remained active following the release of their 2008 album, 4:13 Dream, they have refrained from releasing any new material during this period. Most recently, the British innovators concluded a global tour last December which ran for over 12 months and included three shows at Madison Square Garden in New York.

During their tour dates, The Cure regularly played new material to their fans, however, these songs are still yet to receive an official release and it remains to be seen when another album will finally come.

As part of a new live album, titled, The Cure – Novembre: Live in France 2022, the band will unleash new songs, ‘And Nothing Is Forever’ and ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’ into the world. ‘And Nothing Is Forever’ was recorded during their stop at Montpellier’s Sud de France Arena, and they captured ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’ at the Toulouse Zénith on the same tour.

The new collection is set to be released on environmentally-friendly vinyl as part of a collaboration with the Naked Record Club. Additionally, all profit from The Cure – Novembre: Live in France 2022 will go to the environmental charity EarthPercent, founded by Brian Eno.

Commenting on the news, Eno said: “I’d like to thank The Cure and NAKED Record Club—both true innovators—for their generous support of vital climate projects through the release of The Cure – Novembre: Live In France 2022. It’s a powerful example of how the music community can work together to build a better world.”

According to the Naked Record Club’s co-founder Simon Parker, The Cure’s Robert Smith was the one who initiated the partnership with the aim “to raise climate change awareness in the music industry”. As a lifelong fan of The Cure, Parker was “astonished, excited and dumbstruck in equal measures” by the request.

Only 5,000 copies of The Cure – Novembre: Live in France 2022 will be available to purchase on the limited-edition run.

Will The Cure release a new album?

In 2022, Smith provided several updates on the progress of a new album by The Cure, and they then integrated new material into their sets on their tour, but talk has since died down.

At the Ivor Novello Awards in 2022, Smith told NME: “Essentially it’s a 12 track album. It’s there, it’s kind of half-mixed and half-finished. It’s a weird thing. It’s kind of evolved over the last two years. It hasn’t always been a good thing to have been left alone with it. You pick at it, like picking at seams, and everything falls apart.”

Smith promised that the album will “be worth the wait” and described the forthcoming release as “the best thing we’ve done”. Additionally, the frontman explained that the delay is somewhat down to it being “difficult to sing”.

However, he also claimed it would be released before they hit the road in October, 2022. Yet, almost two years later, there’s still to be an official announcement.
