Indie rock stalwarts The Cribs have released a video for ‘Siren Sing-Along’, the tenth track from their 2020 album Night Network.
The new clip, which takes aim at the recent past of printed music magazines, is a comforting throwback to the days when snarky music writers had to actually show up to the office to slag off indie bands they didn’t like.
The video has everything any longtime music mag reader will recognise: blurbs for (sadly fake) upcoming shows, want ads for aspiring musicians and even some cheeky commentary about the band being “victims of their own ideals.” Hey, you guys said it this time, not us.
Mostly, the video pays homage to simpler, more connected time. “The music weekly’s were always a lifeline to isolated kids like us – a window into a more exciting and vibrant life that we were cut off from,” the band said. “So it was really a perfect time for Nick [Scott, director] to pay homage to this nostalgia, given that we have been working and shooting whilst cut off from each other and fantasising about being able to be back being a band again!”
The Cribs also happen to be one of the few bands that actually have future tour dates in place at the moment. If they can be optimistic that we’ll all be back in clubs and theatres by September, why can’t we?
