The Coen brothers will reunite for a new horror film
The celebrated filmmaking sibling duo the Coen brothers will reunite to make a new horror movie, marking their first joint project since the 2018 western anthology The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
Joel Coen has since made an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth starring Denzel Washington, while Ethan Coen has worked on the comedy road movie Drive-Away Dolls with his wife, Tricia Cooke.
Ethan spoke at a Drive-Away Dolls Q&A in Norway on January 26th and revealed that he and his brother have written a script for a new horror movie that they intend to director together.
“It’s a pure horror film, and it gets very bloody,” he said before referring to his first movie with Joel. “If you like Blood Simple, I think you’ll enjoy it.”
The director had spoken of his and his brother’s decision to focus on separate projects back in 2022, noting, “You start out when you’re a kid, and you want to make a movie. Everything’s enthusiasm and gung-ho, let’s go make a movie. And the first movie is just loads of fun.”
“And then the second movie is loads of fun, almost as much fun as the first,” he added. “And after 30 years, not that it’s no fun, but it’s more of a job than it had been. Joel kind of felt the same way, but not to the extent that I did. So if you don’t have to do it, you go at a certain point: ‘Why am I doing this?’”
Meanwhile, in July, Ethan divulged plans for a new project with his brother Joel, hinting that it might take precedence over work with his wife, which has now become official.
