The co-star Jennifer Lawrence called a karmic gift: “I had so much fun with him every second of the day”

The chemistry between two actors can make or break a movie, with some projects being doomed through real-life romantic breakups, dramas and feuds that only feed into a strained dynamic on screen. However, there are some causes where a positive relationship behind the scenes only fuels the effortless dynamic on screen, leading to an authentic pairing that feels organic and perfectly charming. Whether it be the frequent partnership between Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling or Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, there are many infamous Hollywood couples that have greatly informed the legacy of the film, with people revisiting classics such as Bringing Up Baby and La La Land as a result of the rapport between the leads.

But productions like this can be few and far between, with the recent failure of Snow White showing that no matter how much money is thrown at a project, you simply cannot resurrect bad chemistry and two actors who hate each other’s guts. However, this was not the case for Jennifer Lawrence, who was charmed by one former co-star in particular and couldn’t help but sing their praises.

Jennifer Lawrence has become somewhat known for naturalistic on-screen chemistry with performers such as Bradley Cooper, Josh Hutcherson and Robert De Niro, partly due to her undeniable charisma and spark that makes her one of the most likeable actors in the business. The actor has starred in everything from commercial blockbusters and franchises to controversial independent dramas, finding global fame through her role as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games series while also earning critical acclaim for films such as Silver Linings Playbook, Mother! and Winter’s Bone.

While it seems as though Lawrence is expanding her dramatic catalogue, with an upcoming performance in Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love alongside Robert Pattinson, in recent years she made a surprising move through her role in a comedy, a genre that has been seen dying on the side of the road for the last decade.

No Hard Feelings, directed by Gene Stupnitsky, follows a woman called Maddie who accepts a job to date a 19-year-old boy in order to help prepare him for college. Lawrence stars alongside Hollywood newcomer Andrew Barth Feldman, with high praise for the rising star and their experience of filming together.

Lawrence said, “Yeah. I felt a unique sadness when wrapping this one, because it’s so nice when you feel so confident while filming a movie. There’s some that you shoot and you’re like, “Are people going to get this? I didn’t know it was going to look like that.” Sometimes you’re pleasantly surprised, sometimes you’re not. But to have the confidence that I did in the project itself, and then the chemistry between the cast and the crew—Andrew Barth Feldman, my costar, was a karmic gift. I had so much fun with him every second of the day.”

After challenging experiences working with Darren Aronofsky and David O Russell, working on a positive production with a co-star you genuinely enjoy performing with is surely a welcome change, and points towards a bright future for Feldman and his future collaborations.
