The Black Keys share new single ‘I Forgot To Be Your Lover’
The Black Keys have recently released their new emotive single entitled ‘I Forgot To Be Your Lover,’ which you can check out below.
This is the second track from their upcoming Ohio Players album and is a rendition of William Bell’s song of the same name. Helping bring everything together are Tommy Brenneck and Kelly Finnigan, who played a big part in the record. It follows the recent original single ‘Beautiful People (Stay High).’
A statement about the new track was released, which said, “The reimagined song joins the original tracks on an album unlike any of the band’s others, featuring collaborations among the band’s Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney and various additional friends and colleagues…”
Patrick Carney spoke about the album’s long list of collaborations, including the likes of Noel Gallagher, Beck and Greg Kurstin. “We had this epiphany,” he said, “’We can call our friends to help us make music.’ It’s funny because we both write songs with other people – Dan all the time [as a solo artist and producer] and me when I’m producing a record. That’s what we do.”
Ohio Players follows the band’s last album, Dropout Boogie, which Far Out said was “remarkably psychedelic for a band that is usually associated with stark blues or stylish arena rock.”
The album comes out at the same time as a documentary about the band, which is set to premiere at the SXSW festival. This Is a Film About the Black Keys will show the duo’s journey from being neighbourhood kids to rock and roll legends.
The band’s new album is set to be released on April 5th under Nonesuch/Warner and is currently available for pre-order.
