The best hostels in the world for 2019 have been named

Hostels are no longer the dingy, cramped and disgusting places horrorific dreams are made of. These days you can find great eco-friendly, unique and special places perfect for a stay a reasonable price.

With sites like Hostelworld that allow people to review their stays, it is clear to see that Hostels are upping their game. In celebration of this, the aforementioned website hosts a yearly awards ceremony called the ‘HOSCARs 2019’, where they celebrate the best of the best. These awards aren’t just personal preference though they are voted for by their massive community of 1.2million customer reviews that were submitted over the last year on 36,000 properties in over 170 countries.

Far Out have taken a look at these results and put together some of our favourite winners:

Best hostels for solo travellers: The Road House (Prague)

Náprstkova 275/4,
110 00 Staré Město,

Opened in 2017, The Road House is the perfect place for social backpackers, so not surprising it took the award for Best Hostel for Solo Travellers.

The hostel’s ethos is that travelling is about the people you meet as well as what you see. To coincide with that, they do many activities to help people to get to know each other.

Best Solo Female Hostel: We Love F Tourists (Lisbon)

R. dos Fanqueiros 267,

We Love F Tourists, the newly-furbished hostel in Portugal’s hippest new city of Lisbon, has been named as the Best for Female Solo Travellers.

It has a reputation of being safe, friendly, laid-back and located close to spectacular beaches. Ideal for chilling on the beach with a good book.

Best New Small Hostel: The House of Sandeman (Porto)

Largo Miguel Bombarda,
Vila Nova de Gaia,

The House of Sandeman Hostel & Suites is set within one of Porto’s most iconic buildings. It is atop the Sandeman wine cellars and on the edge of the river Douro.

Overlooking Porto’s downtown area, this hostel is a beautiful stay for any traveller.

Best in England: Wombats City Hostel (London)

7 Dock St,
E1 8LL.

Set in the notoriously hip part of London with Shoreditch, Wombats has a great bar, courtyard and is ideal when visiting England’s capital.

With such a young, busy and vibrant vibe to the place, it is not hard to see why it was voted England’s Best Hostel.

Most Popular hostel in Amsterdam: Clinknoord

Badhuiskade 3,
1031 KV Amsterdam,

As European cities go, Amsterdam is up there with the trickiest of locations to find decent accommodation at a reasonable price. ClinkNOORD comes with original laboratory features and spacious atrium and bar.

It is located across the IJ river which is just ten minutes for the Amsterdam central station. Right in the heart of the city, it is the perfect stay for most travellers looking for something a little different.

Best Value for Money: Dalat Friendly Fun (Dalat)

F18 Mạc Đĩnh Chi,
Phường 5,
Thành phố Đà Lạt,
Lâm Đồng, Vietnam.

The second year winning the award, Dalat Friendly Fun in Vietnam has been given Best Value for Money award.

Dorms are priced at the quite ridiculously low fee of £3.92 a night which includes free wi-fi, en-suite bathrooms, towels, breakfast and parking. It is easy to see why it gets given this ward with such good amenities.
