Hostels are no longer the dingy, cramped and disgusting places horrorific dreams are made of. These days you can find great eco-friendly, unique and special places perfect for a stay a reasonable price.
With sites like Hostelworld that allow people to review their stays, it is clear to see that Hostels are upping their game. In celebration of this, the aforementioned website hosts a yearly awards ceremony called the ‘HOSCARs 2019’, where they celebrate the best of the best. These awards aren’t just personal preference though they are voted for by their massive community of 1.2million customer reviews that were submitted over the last year on 36,000 properties in over 170 countries.

Best hostels for solo travellers: The Road House (Prague)

Opened in 2017, The Road House is the perfect place for social backpackers, so not surprising it took the award for Best Hostel for Solo Travellers.
The hostel’s ethos is that travelling is about the people you meet as well as what you see. To coincide with that, they do many activities to help people to get to know each other.
Best Solo Female Hostel: We Love F Tourists (Lisbon)

We Love F Tourists, the newly-furbished hostel in Portugal’s hippest new city of Lisbon, has been named as the Best for Female Solo Travellers.
It has a reputation of being safe, friendly, laid-back and located close to spectacular beaches. Ideal for chilling on the beach with a good book.

With such a young, busy and vibrant vibe to the place, it is not hard to see why it was voted England’s Best Hostel.

The second year winning the award, Dalat Friendly Fun in Vietnam has been given Best Value for Money award.
Dorms are priced at the quite ridiculously low fee of £3.92 a night which includes free wi-fi, en-suite bathrooms, towels, breakfast and parking. It is easy to see why it gets given this ward with such good amenities.
