The Beatles biopics: Saoirse Ronan, Aimee Lou Wood, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Anna Sawai confirmed to star
Saoirse Ronan, Aimee Lou Wood, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Anna Sawai have been confirmed for Sam Mendes’ The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event.
The upcoming four movies, which will explore the story of The Beatles from the perspectives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, are set to be released in cinemas in 2028.
Ronan has been cast as McCartney’s wife Linda McCartney, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey, and Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono.
Mendes said of the casting news: “Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right – and I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure.”
Notably, Linda met Paul in 1967 and embarked upon a romantic relationship. Boyd later married Harrison after meeting him on the set of A Hard Day’s Night in 1964. Maureen had known Ringo from Liverpool, with the couple marrying in 1965. Lastly, Ono and Lennon began their inseparable relationship after he attended an art exhibition of her work in London in 1968.
Earlier this month, Boyd gave her approval to the casting. She took to X to respond to a report that claimed Wood portray her in the upcoming films to write, “Big news, indeed! I’m looking forward (hoping) to meet Aimee Lou at some point in the future”.
The four new additions to the cast will star alongside Paul Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as Lennon, Joseph Quinn as Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Starr.
It was also recently reported that James Norton is set to land a major role in The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event as their manager Brian Epstein. However, at this stage, it remains unconfirmed.
Official news regarding the casting of Epstein, as well as Cynthia Lennon, George Martin, and Ravi Shankar, is expected to be announced in the near future.
Sony Pictures, which is financing and distributing the films worldwide with full theatrical releases in April 2028, previously labelled the set of films as “the first binge-able theatrical experience”.
