Tania Mallet, Bond girl who starred in Goldfinger, dies aged 77

Actress Tania Mallet, famous for her role in James Bond film Goldfinger, has died at the age of 77.

The news was confirmed by the official Twitter account linked to James Bond: ”We are very sorry to hear that Tania Mallet who played Tilly Masterson in Goldfinger has passed away. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time,” the statement read.

Mallet, who began life as a model, was recruited for the role of Tilly Masterson in the 1964 film after a photograph of her posing in a bikini was sent to Bond producer Cubby Broccoli. “I believe it was a picture taken by Henry Clark for Vogue and shows me lying on some rocks in a bikini.” she once said in an interview with James Bond fan site MI6.

The role would be Mallet’s one an only foray into acting, explaining: “Filming had been an interesting experience but I was always more comfortable in a small studio with just the photographer and his assistant. Besides which, the restrictions placed on me for the duration of the filming grated, were dreadful and I could not anticipate living my life like that.”

The cause of death has not been revealed.
